mother nature is a harsh mistress

It was really windy the other day and I noticed yesterday that the nest was gone. Tonight we noticed these in the lawn. It was really sad...especially because they were just abandoned. I read that doves will do this, but as I picked up the eggs I could see feathers and the form of a little baby bird.

Excuse me for a minute. I think I have something in my eye...

So sad. But I guess there's always a chance another bird will find my backyard a suitable spot for raising a family. All is not lost.

In fact, I just saw a hummingbird outside my window. Gotta go.
